FAQS

FAQ: FAQ

WHERE CAN I INTERN?

The short answer is: Wherever you want! Your internship should be based around your career goals and interests, which means you get to pick a site that starts you on the career path that you want within the recreation industry. Once you've found your site, and completed the required paperwork, your advisor will approve you to begin working.

CAN I HAVE A PAID INTERNSHIP?

Absolutely! Internships can be paid, unpaid, or you could receive compensation in other ways, such as housing or meals. We understand that getting paid is a big deal, especially after 4 or 5 years in college, but remember, that should only be one criterion for selecting an internship.

DO I HAVE TO STAY IN GEORGIA?

Students in the RTM program at Georgia Southern have interned around the world! Some recent locations include: Australia, Indonesia, Mexico, and across the United States. As long as it meets internship requirements (which can be found in the guidebook), it will be a learning experience for you, and the site is willing to work with us, you can literally go anywhere!

WHEN SHOULD I START LOOKING FOR A PERMANENT JOB?

Finding a job always takes time, frequently as long as several months. For that reason, start searching while at your the internship site. It is always a good policy to maintain contact with people from your University, as well as people you meet in the field. Stay in touch with the Recreation and Tourism Management faculty as you begin your job search.

SHOULD I CONSIDER GRAD SCHOOL?

Although a Master's Degree is not a requirement in many areas of Recreation and Tourism Management, more education and preparation can be to your advantage. However, be aware that admission to graduate school isn't automatic, and may not be for everyone. If you are considering graduate school, consult with RTM faculty for additional information.
